It’s a Triumph

One of the many unique features here at The Motor Lodge is our vast collection of classic cars. Okay, we have two. We think they lend themselves to the retro vibe as you pull into our parking lot. One of our cars is a dark green 1970 Triumph Spitfire Mark IV. The Triumph Cycle Co. got its start circa 1885 in London. They made bicycles for several years until 1902 when they started making motorcycles. The name was changed to the Triumph Motor Co. in 1930. The last Triumph rolled off the lot in 1984 when the company changed owners. The Triumph trademark is currently owned by BMW. The company’s codename for the Spitfire was “The Bomb”. Between 1962 and 1981, Triumph made four “Marks” of the Spitfire, and also the Spitfire 1500. In 1970 the Spitfire Mark IV sold new for 735 British pounds, which is equal to about $9,677 U.S. dollars today. They say that the car gets 31 miles per gallon at 70 miles per hour…not bad bad especially during these sketchy economic times! The name “Spitfire” is really appropriate for our little car. It’s loaded with personality and is really fun to drive…kinda like driving a go cart…a really fun go cart! We hope that it takes you back to the good ol’ days. Who knows, maybe we’ll let you take it for a spin!D_pmlext_023
