Sunflower Forest

These scalding summer days make it hard to believe that anything will grow in our soil. This makes it all the more exciting when hardy plants are able to soak up what little water there is and completely thrive. Some of these plants are truly incredible. The Helianthus Annuus is an annual plant, native to Central and North America, that follows the sun through the sky, and is probably on a mug you own. You guessed it, we’re talking about sunflowers. It is currently prime sunflower season, although they haven’t reached their peak. There are several native sunflowers that are in bloom in late July and during the month of August.

Sunflowers tend to impact people more than other flowers. Perhaps it is their height that makes us feel humble and happy or their joyful, summery appearance. Or it could be their love of the sun, that we definitely can relate to.  People have used sunflowers as symbols for several causes. From the Vegan Society to the Aesthetic Movement. These flowers embody a lot.

So, if you love sunflowers like we do, we’ll let you in on a Prescott area secret. If you go down to skull valley in the next couple of weeks, past the general store and tasty breakfast place, you will see the most outrageous fields of thick and vibrant flowers. You can’t walk through them they are so dense (and we have tried). They are an absolute treat, a sunflower forest. Not much else can make you feel THAT good.
